Next DBC meetings and programs

All meetings held in the Education Business Hall (EBH) at Fort Lewis College at 6:00 p.m., unless stated otherwise.  From Durango, go up 8th Avenue to the college. Turn left at the first light (Rim Drive). Turn into the first parking lot (you can park there). EBH is the building on your left as you enter the parking lot. Parking on campus is free after 5:00 p.m. Google map link

4 March 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Rm 055 (changed from 18 February due to a winter storm). Presentation by ornithologist, Aimee Way, Learning the Language of Birds. Aimee will share tips on learning songs and calls; she will help you turn on recognition of bird language in your brain.

20 May 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Presentation by Kurt Hillman, DBC Treasurer, Tips to Improve Your Bird Photography.

19 August 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Our favorite photos. DBC members will "show and tell" five of their favorite, high quality, bird photos. Members who want to participate must send their photos by 5 August to Catherine Ortega. You must have taken the photos yourself, but they can be from anywhere in the world.

18 November 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Organizational meeting for paid members only.

February 28. Field Trip to Pastorius Reservoir at 9 a.m. Leader: Stephen Tarnowski. Meet at the reservoir.

March 6-8. Monte Vista Crane Festival

March 14. Meet up at Rotary Park at 8:30 a.m. Join other bird club members for a stroll around the Fish Hatchery area and up to Rank Park.

March 28. Field Trip to Pastorius Reservoir at 8:30 a.m. We should begin seeing early migrants by this date like Tree Swallows, and maybe even some of our earlier shorebirds like Long-billed Dowitchers. And we should still have a lot of waterfowl hanging around. 

April 1. Wednesday morning bird walks with Lisa every Wednesday, starting on 1 April (at 9:00 to begin with). Meet at the botanical garden at the library.

April 4. Gunnison Sage-grouse lek at the Waunita Watchable Wildlife Area  (East of Gunnison). Trip capped at 8 participants, or 4 cars (viewing from passenger side). RSVP required to me, Stephen Tarnowski via email. 

Lodging in Gunnison the night of April 3 on your own; meet up at the Inn at Tomichi Village very early in the morning on April 4 to drive to the lek site
